Who Should Seek Palliative Care?

Patients with the following conditions that can benefit from palliative services include:

  • Cancer
  • Serious brain conditions, such as stroke, dementia, ALS and others
  • Advanced heart, lung, liver, kidney or vascular disease
  • AIDS
  • Life-threatening accidents
  • Other serious or life-limiting illness

A New Choice for Care:
All Centered on what's Best for You

The Palliative Medicine program includes a team of specialists who collaborate with patients, families and referring physicians to tailor treatment plans that meet each patient’s personal goals and needs.

We focus on the whole person, providing emotional and spiritual support. If you have advanced illness or chronic disease, you may benefit from our services, which include:

  • Symptom management: We provide expert attention to and relief from distressing physical symptoms.
  • Information sharing: We will help you understand what to expect from the illness itself, available treatment options and what effect those options may have on the disease course.
  • Effective communication: We listen carefully to you so your goals, values and wishes are communicated to all involved in your care.
  • Caring support: We will help you make important preparations for yourself and your family now, for peace of mind later.

Together, Team Members Collaborate on Your Care

They include a palliative medicine fellowship trained physician, an advanced-practice nurse, a master’s prepared social worker and a spiritual care counselor. Other caregivers, such as physical therapists and psychologists, are also available to provide additional services that may be helpful to patients.
