ProHealth Care now offers 3D mammography at a fourth location: the ProHealth Medical Group clinic at 13900 W. National Ave. in New Berlin.
ProHealth Care’s breast imaging services also are provided at the D. N. Greenwald Center, 240 Maple Ave., Mukwonago; ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, 791 Summit Ave., Oconomowoc; and the ProHealth Medical Group clinic at N16 W24131 Riverwood Drive in Pewaukee. All sites offer both 3D and 2D mammography.
ProHealth Care offers immediate mammography results for all appointments scheduled before 4 p.m.
A radiologist reviews the images for both screening and diagnostic mammography exams during the visit so that daytime patients have their results before they leave.
The patient also has the opportunity to consult with the radiologist, if needed or requested, during her breast imaging visit (before 4 p.m.). Additional mammographic testing also can be done during the visit if it is needed.
Research has shown that 3D technology may detect up to 41 percent more cancers than digital mammography alone and reduce the need to return for additional testing by up to 40 percent.
“The 3D mammogram gives more women peace of mind that they have a normal exam,” said Jennifer Bergin, MD, a ProHealth Care radiologist specializing in breast imaging. “3D mammography also allows us to detect cancer at an earlier stage, so we’re detecting smaller, more treatable tumors.”
With 3D mammography, doctors can see breast tissue detail in ways never before possible. 3D mammograms include 15 additional pictures of the breast tissue taken from multiple angles, allowing radiologists to zoom in and view breast tissue through a series of thin “slices.”
Every woman can benefit from 3D mammography. Women with dense breast tissue, breast cancer survivors, and those with a genetic predisposition to breast cancer often benefit the most.
